Savoury Chaffle

Preparation time:

The world is obsessed with chaffles, and I'm not surprised — crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, it's hard to believe they're less than 2g net carb.

The trick to making them waffle-y and not 'eggy' is to blitz the mixture till smooth.

The savoury chaffle can be topped with your favourite foods, or use them like bread to sandwich ingredients together.

A note on cooking
I encourage you to embrace a freestyle way of cooking, and use this recipe as a guide. Don’t get too caught up in measuring things exactly — you can eyeball most things.

Cooking should be relaxing, unfussy and an opportunity for you to exercise your creativity. Don’t forget to taste as you go along, and use your intuition with flavours.

Trust your instinct, on whether it needs more of this, or more of that — cook to what you like!

    1. Turn on the waffle maker to the hottest setting
    2. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blitz till smooth and combined
    3. Make sure the waffle iron has come to its hottest temperature before you begin cooking.
    4. *Spoon a third of the mixture into the waffle iron and cook for 2-3 minutes. You will know it's cooked when the steam disappears and it's golden brown.
    5. Remove the waffle and allow to cool while you cook the remaining waffle batter.
    6. The chaffles can be eaten straight away, topped with smoked salmon, eggs, avocado or bacon. Or use them like bread to sandwich ingredients together (as the picture above).
    7. Alternatively, store in the fridge or freezer for later. Simply reheat in a toaster or pop them into a heated oven for a few minutes.

    *Top Tip:

For an extra crispy exterior, sprinkle finely grated cheddar cheese onto the bottom of the waffle iron before spooning on the batter. Top the batter with another sprinkle of cheddar cheese and then cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and the cheese has crisped up.
